Wisconsin football lands verbal commitment from 2026 WR Jayden Petit
Wisconsin football has landed a commitment from 2026 4-star wide receiver Jayden Petit out of Florida, who is a consensus top 250 talent.
Luke Fickell and the University of Wisconsin football program just added a potential game-changer to its 2026 class.
Four-star wide receiver Jayden Petit announced his verbal commitment to the Badgers, choosing Wisconsin over a long list of scholarship offers that included Oklahoma, Missouri, Auburn, Miami and North Carolina, among others.
"Academics was a big thing for me," Petit said. "I want to go into commercial real estate after football and Wisconsin is ranked No. 1 in the nation for real estate. The relationships and the culture was second to none. I just felt at home in Madison. It doesn't hurt that they play also play great competition in the Big Ten."
This recruitment may have started with some skepticism, it ended with one of the biggest wins of the Fickell era.
Petit is the kind of player you don’t typically expect to leave SEC country.
At 6-foot-4 and over 210 pounds, Petit damn near has the frame of a tight end, the straight-line speed of a track athlete, and the kind of natural ball skills that make you pause and rewind the tape. He is a physical presence downfield, finds ways to win in contested situations, and has a very high ceiling if everything comes together at the University of Wisconsin.
As a junior at St. John Neumann High School, Petit hauled in 50 passes for 777 yards and 12 touchdowns, flashing the kind of high-end production at receiver that quickly made him a national name.
Petit enters the fold as one of the most highly regarded wideouts to ever commit to Wisconsin. He’s a consensus top-250 prospect nationally, a top-35 receiver in the 2026 cycle, and the No. 30 recruit in Florida. He’s the Badgers’ first four-star wide receiver commitment since Paul Chryst landed Danny Davis back in 2017.
But what makes this commitment so interesting isn’t just Petit's physical profile or offer list, it’s how the relationship with Wisconsin developed.
Wisconsin wasn’t even in the picture early on. The Badgers extended an offer in January, and at the time, it barely registered. That changed with a spring visit to Madison. Then another. Then another.
By the time Petit returned for his official visit in June, the staff had completely flipped the script for the blue-chip talent.
A lot of credit goes to wide receivers coach Jordan Reid, who helped make this more than just a recruiting pitch. His ability to connect with Petit on a personal level—checking in after the loss of a loved one, being honest about areas of development, and creating an environment where faith and family mattered all played a role in landing Petit.
Reid is in his first year with the program, but he's already landed three guys considered top-of-the-board receiver targets. That doesn’t happen by accident.
Now add in the influence of first-year offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, whose track record developing receivers who play a versatile and physical role in his offenses is well-established. Petit is the kind of weapon that could shine in Grimes's system, especially if he continues to refine his game and his straight-line speed takes a step forward.
And while Petit continues to refine his route-running during his senior season, his mentality is where it needs to be. He leads by example and is a good teammate.
From a big-picture standpoint, this is also another example of Wisconsin establishing a foothold in Florida. Petit joins a growing list of prospects from the Sunshine State who have bought into what the Badgers are building. And with former Wisconsin standout Chris Maragos now coaching at Petit's high school, there’s real momentum forming.
Petit becomes the 14th known verbal commitment in Wisconsin’s 2026 class, joining quarterback Ryan Hopkins, fellow wideouts Tayshon Bardo and Zion Legree, tight ends Jack Sievers and Jack Janda, plus offensive linemen Benjamin Novak and Maddox Cochrane on offense.
Defensively, the Badgers have also been active, landing commitments from cornerback Carsen Eloms, linebackers Aden Reeder and Ben Wenzel, defensive lineman Djidjou Bah and Arthur Scott, and safety Zachary Taylor.
Funny how things change. Not long ago, the narrative online was that Wisconsin couldn’t pull top talent out of Florida anymore. Instead, the Badgers just landed one of the most impressive receiver prospects in the country and someone who fits exactly what this staff is about.
