Wisconsin basketball is evaluating several transfer portal options as the staff looks to add a few complementary pieces to its roster.

There’s a difference between filling a roster and shaping one. Right now, Wisconsin men’s basketball feels like it’s leaning toward the latter.

With Austin Rapp already announcing his return and expectations that Nolan Winter, Jack Janicki, Hayden Jones, Zach Kinziger, and Will Garlock will also be back, along with Australian point guard Owen Foxwell and incoming freshmen LaTrevion Fenderson and Jackson Ball, the foundation is starting to take shape. That matters. Because then the staff’s conversation shifts internally from “who’s left?” to “what do you add?”

Wisconsin also doesn’t have the spending power that many of its Big Ten counterparts operate with, which means every move Greg Gard and Marc VandeWettering make has to be intentional. The fit, the analytics, and the NIL investment all have to align before pulling the trigger on a transfer.

And that’s where things start to get interesting, with Wisconsin in the mix for a number of portal targets worth taking a closer look at.
