Owen Foxwell explains decision to join Wisconsin and fit in Greg Gard’s system
In an exclusive interview, Owen Foxwell breaks down his decision, fit, and path to Wisconsin after a pro career in Australia.

The path that led Owen Foxwell to the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball program doesn’t look like your typical recruiting story.
It’s not built on AAU circuits, the transfer portal, or late summer rankings bumps. It’s built on five years of professional basketball, more than 100 games against grown men, and a steady climb from development player to starting point guard in one of the better leagues outside the NBA.
And now, that path runs through Madison.
Foxwell, a 22-year-old lefty guard from Australia, arrives at Wisconsin after averaging 11.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game this past season with South East Melbourne Phoenix. He shot 41.1% from the field, 35.2% from three, and finished with 125 assists to 43 turnovers.
It’s production. But more than that, it’s experience.
So when the opportunity came to leave that environment and take on college basketball, the decision wasn’t just about timing. It was about fit.
“The fit was perfect,” Foxwell told BadgerNotes. “Talking to coach Krabb [Krabbenhoft], he instilled a lot of confidence that Wisconsin would have success with me being a key contributor in the program, which was really important. The main reason that we all do this is to win and be successful on the court, and get a chance to play for a national championship.
