Shawn Eichorst’s introductory press conference at the University of Wisconsin wasn’t about unveiling sweeping policy changes or making bold promises. Instead, the Badgers’ new athletic director used his first public appearance to outline the principles that will guide his leadership.

There weren’t many headline-grabbing moments. But if you listened closely, the Lone Rock, Wisconsin native and former Texas deputy athletic director offered perhaps the clearest glimpse yet into how Eichorst plans to navigate one of the most challenging eras in college athletics.

“Badger Nation, please know that nobody will work harder for Wisconsin athletics,” Eichorst said. “I love this state. I love everything that it represents. The passion is there. I don’t have to make it up. I’ve lived it. It’s in my heart. We will live and breathe the principles that have defined generations of Badgers: hard work, integrity, competitive fight.

“No expectations for all of us will be greater than my own, as those are solely tied to achieving excellence. And so my commitment is to strive for that every single day in everything that we do. Everything matters.”
