Wisconsin football hiring Cam Odom as assistant wide receivers coach
Wisconsin is hiring Georgia assistant Cam Odom as assistant wide receivers coach, adding Midwest ties and Power 4 experience to the staff.
Wisconsin football is adding another young assistant to its offensive staff.
Cam Odom, who has been serving as an assistant wide receivers coach at Georgia, is joining Luke Fickell’s staff in a similar role in Madison. The hire continues an offseason reshaping of the offensive side of the ball, particularly in the receivers’ room, following Jordan Reid’s departure to become the assistant quarterback coach on the Atlanta Falcons’ staff.
Odom arrives with a background that mirrors the position he’ll help coach.
A native of Bedford, Ohio, Odom played wide receiver at Ohio University from 2016 through 2021, finishing his college career with 100 receptions for 1,374 yards and six touchdowns. He averaged 13.7 yards per catch and, as a senior in 2021, led the Bobcats with 29 receptions for 406 yards.
His ties to Ohio are notable. Odom grew up in the Cleveland area and understands the state’s high school football landscape, something that has historically mattered to Fickell and his recruiting philosophy. The Midwest footprint remains a priority for Wisconsin, and Odom has earned praise in coaching circles for his recruiting energy and attention to detail.
After finishing his playing career, Odom transitioned quickly into coaching.
He began as a graduate assistant at Ohio in early 2022, working with the wide receivers under head coach Tim Albin. Later that year, Odom moved to Baylor as a graduate assistant, gaining experience in a Big 12 offensive structure under Dave Aranda. In May 2024, he joined Kirby Smart’s staff at Georgia as an assistant wide receivers coach, working with one of the SEC’s deeper receiver units and contributing to recruiting, film study, and day-to-day development.
Now just 26 years old, Odom represents another young voice on Wisconsin’s offensive staff, and someone Coach Reid knew well. The two overlapped at Ohio in 2019, when Reid returned as an offensive graduate assistant while Odom was a starting receiver and team captain. Odom also spent time as a graduate assistant at Baylor while Jeff Grimes was the offensive coordinator and Eric Mateos coached the offensive line, giving him prior familiarity with two key members of the Badgers’ current offensive staff.
The move comes as the Badgers continue reshaping their offensive coaching structure. Reid, who was brought in after Kenny Guiton shifted to quarterbacks coach last offseason, spent one season on staff before departing for an NFL opportunity. Wisconsin responded by hiring Ari Confesor to fill that vacancy. Odom will now step in for Blake Rolan, who will transition into the assistant quarterbacks coach role.
They’ve also made changes up front and in the backfield, replacing offensive line coach A.J. Blazek with Eric Mateos and hiring Jayden Everett to take over the running backs room after Devon Spalding left for Michigan State.
The offensive staff has undergone steady turnover, and the reshaping may not be finished yet. This kind of offseason movement isn’t unusual in the profession. Assistant coaches network, build connections, and pursue opportunities they believe will move them closer to achieving their goals.
Odom’s addition fits the broader theme: youth, new ideas, Midwest ties, and experience inside high-level programs. For a staff still searching for its offensive identity, it’s another piece added to a group in transition.
