Wisconsin football has a favorable schedule and higher expectations. These are the five biggest questions that will define 2026.
The funny thing about college football in July is that everyone can build a convincing case for optimism.
Every roster looks deeper than it did a year ago. Every transfer is going to fit perfectly. Every coordinator has solved last season’s problems. Hope is abundant because nobody has actually played real football yet.
Wisconsin football is no different.
The Badgers are coming off a 4-8 season (2-7 Big Ten), their second straight year without a bowl game. And yet, Wisconsin closed the year with wins over two AP Top 25 opponents, a reminder that there were at least some signs of progress beneath an otherwise disappointing season.
Since then, the program has poured resources into the roster, overhauled key position groups, and enters Year 4 under Luke Fickell with a schedule that looks much more manageable than the one it faced a season ago.
That doesn’t mean the Badgers are destined for greatness. It means there are fewer excuses than there have been at any point during Fickell’s tenure.
Whether Wisconsin finally turns the corner won’t come down to one player or one game. It’ll come down to answering a handful of questions that have hovered over this program since last season came to a close.
