There’s a fine line between identity and imbalance, and the Wisconsin men’s basketball team spent most of the 2025-26 season walking it.

A season filled with so much promise ended with an 83-82 loss to High Point in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament — a No. 5 seed bounced early, and a result that makes you reflect on a team that showed an incredibly high ceiling but ultimately fell short of expectations.

But if you zoom out, you start to see something more nuanced.

Because this wasn’t just about one game. It was about the trade-offs this team made that defined Wisconsin’s season.
