Christian Alliegro chose football over lacrosse, trusted the process, and is now on track to become the next standout linebacker for the Wisconsin Badgers.
Thank you, Dillon, I love reading your article. I like the personal aspect of the players you write about . I really hope Coach Fickell can instill the desire and fire in the young man to go all out for the full 4 quarters. With that mentality, the game is not over .Cause the desire to be the best and knowing that you gave everything possible to succeed . Is a victory in itself. Win or lose.
Thank you so much for reading—I really appreciate the kind words. I think you’re spot on. If Luke Fickell and this staff can get guys like Christian Alliegro to lead with that kind of urgency and edge for all four quarters, Wisconsin’s going to be in a lot of games this fall. That mindset, win or lose, is how cultures shift. They need difference makers.
They’ve made a lot of schematic tweaks this offseason, part of that is due to the bigger body types they’ve recruited in the front seven. So it’ll be really interesting to see exactly how they plan to use him once fall camp rolls around. That’s something I definitely plan to follow up on with Coach Fickell to get a clearer answer because I’m curious, too. That said, I’m not overly concerned about the athleticism translating. I think he moves well enough for what they’re asking him to do.

Terrific piece, interesting about coverage as being the dramatic outlier. How is he addressing it?
