Where Wisconsin MBB Signees Land In Final 2023 Recruiting Rankings
See where Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball program's incoming players land in 247Sports final 2023 recruiting rankings.
Now that the high school "all-star" games have officially come to an end and spring evaluation is underway, scouts and analysts across the country have formally gotten their final look at Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball 2023 recruiting class before they begin their respective careers in college next season.
On Thursday, 247Sports released its final version of the 2023 recruiting rankings, so it's worth checking out where the incoming Wisconsin Badgers recruits landed.
The newest rankings featured a lot of movement, including a new No. 1 recruit, Ron Holland, who recently de-committed from Texas. Other notable movers include Cody Williams (Colorado), who jumped into the Top 5, and Bronny James (USC), who jumped up ten spots from No. 36.
Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball program have the No. 33 rated class in the composite rankings and the No. 6 class in the Big Ten, with two Top 150 prospects. However, UW's lone scholarship guard dropped slightly from his last position.
Wisconsin’s Final 247Sports 2023 Recruiting Rankings
No. 114 – Gus Yalden (Previous Ranking: 104)
No. 144 – Nolan Winter (Previous Ranking: 174)
No. 208 – John Blackwell (Previous Ranking: 206)
Unranked Walk-On Commit – Jack Janicki (Previous Ranking: N/A)
As you can see, there is plenty of movement in these final rankings compared to the others, especially with Winter making a noticeable leap after a stand-out senior season where he won Gatorade Player of the Year in Minnesota.
I'll never understand how Yalden, who keeps improving despite playing some of the nation's best talent, continues to move down these rankings. It would be different if he attended a high school and throttled kids well below his talent level.
But that doesn't dismantle the fact that Greg Gard and the Wisconsin basketball program put together one of the Badgers' best recruiting classes in years.
From perfect systematic fits like Yalden and Winter to an intriguing defensive-minded combo guard like Blackwell, the 2023 recruiting class could have multiple players work their way onto the court as early as next season.
