A look at the five Wisconsin football players whose performance could have the biggest impact on how the Badgers’ 2026 season unfolds.

The most important players on a college football team aren’t always the best players.

Sometimes it’s the quarterback an offense can’t afford to lose. Sometimes it’s the offensive lineman holding together a position without an obvious replacement. Other times, it’s a defensive player whose ability to make the jump from good to great could change the ceiling of an entire unit.

That’s how I approached this list.

These aren’t necessarily the best players on Wisconsin’s roster entering 2026, although you could argue they’re all in the mix. They’re the five players I believe will have the greatest influence on whether the Badgers can finally reverse three years of declining results under Luke Fickell.
