There has never been much question about whether Malachi Coleman has the physical tools to become a difference-maker.
At 6-foot-5 and roughly 205 pounds, Coleman arrived at Nebraska in 2023 as a four-star prospect and consensus top-65 player nationally. The question has always been whether those tools would eventually translate.
Three schools and four seasons into his college career, the University of Wisconsin football program may finally be finding out.
Coleman caught four passes for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Badgers’ 41-13 loss to No. 4 Notre Dame, including a 28-yard score on a double move that offered a glimpse of what he can bring to this offense.
For some perspective, Coleman entered Wisconsin with only 13 career receptions for 222 yards and one touchdown between Nebraska and Minnesota. In one game with the Badgers, the Lincoln (Neb.) native nearly matched half of that receiving production in 40 offensive snaps.
Coleman also led Wisconsin with a 75.5 offensive grade, per PFF, while earning a 74.6 receiving grade. All four of his catches moved the chains for first downs, and he posted an average depth of target of 15.4 yards.
