One of the annual challenges this time of the year is balancing optimism with reality. Every fan base convinces itself this is the season everything clicks, and to Wisconsin's credit, there are legitimate reasons to believe the Badgers will be improved in Year 4 under Luke Fickell.

The roster is considerably deeper, the financial investment is greater, and this year’s schedule is far more forgiving than a season ago. But improvement and playoff contention are two very different conversations.
