Madison, Wis. — In October, Wisconsin Badgers head coach Greg Gard and his coaching staff were set to host four-star point guard Daniel Freitag out of Bloomington, Minnesota, on an early official visit to Madison.

Unfortunately, the visit was canceled due to scheduling conflicts during the football season.

Per the 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 53 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 8 PG in the country, and the No. 1 player in Minnesota.

Freitag told BadgerNotes that, as of right now, an official visit date had yet to be rescheduled. However, he stated, "I'm sure we will find a day to do it; it is something we definitely plan on doing."

"The Wisconsin staff have been great to me; Coach Gard and I are very close. I am also very close to Coach Krabbenhoft and the other UW assistants."

For those who don't already know, Freitag is also a decorated prep football player in Minnesota. Because of that, he's still working through which sport he'll play at the next level.

"I have not yet made a decision on which sport I will play; playing both is also in the conversation," Freitag told BadgerNotes.

Wisconsin was the first Power 5 program to offer 2024-point guard Daniel Freitag a scholarship after their advanced camp in June 2021. Since then, the Minnesota native has picked up offers from Baylor, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Virginia.

Right now, the four-star PG is hearing most from Wisconsin, Virginia, and Minnesota, albeit for football.

"Wisconsin was my very first offer, which I do not take lightly," Freitag told BadgerNotes. "They've also shown seriousness in how much they want me by not offering any other point guards."

Freitag, a four-star prospect, has everything you could want from a point guard. Good size, physicality, well-above-average athleticism, playmaking ability, and toughness. He can also slash, play above the rim, and shoot from beyond the arc. In short, he's the total package.

In my humble opinion, he would be a program-elevating talent at UW. The Badgers have had decades' worth of solid-to-great point guard play and put a lot of responsibility on the plate of their floor general. If a player like Freitag were leading the charge - I'd suggest buying stock in Wisconsin basketball before it’s too late.

The proverbial keys to the car would be there waiting if he chooses the University of Wisconsin, considering Chucky Hepburn would be a senior when he arrives on campus, making him a potential dream scenario successor to the Nebraska native.

The word on the street...
